This morning I gave a ten minute presentation on texture analysis and the tools I have developed. Obviously, you can't explain in depth every aspect of texture analysis and my software in ten minutes...The one question at the end came right to an important point I did not have time to get into- WHAT DOES THIS STUFF DO FOR US?
I'll break it down into two seperate questions, one of which I will awnser in this blog/ Keep tuned for my mext blog post to awnser question #2. Here are the important questions:
1. What does texture analysis in general do for radiologists? and
2. What does your tool specifically do for us that a commercial product like TexRAD does not?
Well, let's start on 1: Texture analysis is used inside some radiology AI algorithms to diagnose and follow all kinds of findings. Texture analysis is also an active area of research in radiology- so active everything from 5 years ago is nearly outdated. To even see all the applications of texture analysis in radiology today you need to go find a review paper in each area it is used. Here is an example .
